IP Video Enhances Police Operation

IndigoVision’s IP technology is providing the backbone for an innovative integrated security system installed in a Dutch highsecurity prison. The Ministry of Justice in the Netherlands commissioned GTN Systems b.v to design a system that could cost-effectively control and monitor the access to different parts of the prison. By using IndigoVision’s IP network technology, GTN designed a system that realized cost savings in excess of 20% compared to traditional hard-wired solutions. IndigoVision’s interface modules provide the digital compression and transmission of high-quality video, bi-directional audio and I/O control data over the IP network.
Each prison cell has a vandal-proof secure cabinet that contains an IndigoVision 6000 module, power supply and I/O hardware. The only external connections to the cabinet are power and a CAT5 Ethernet network cable. Each cabinet is connected to a local network hub, which in turn is connected to a dual redundant fiber-optic ring installed around the building. The cabinets contain an audio intercom, for both inside and outside of the cell, door control hardware and door position sensors. A GTN developed graphical interface, based on the NCVS Management System, allows prison staff to remotely monitor and control the cell intercom, door access and CCTV cameras.
CCTV cameras monitor the hallways and cell doors as well as other general areas around the prison. Whenever a cell intercom is activated the nearest camera positions and zooms to that location. All existing cameras are interfaced to the network via the IndigoVision 6000 modules located in the nearest cell cabinet. New cameras installed as part of the project are dedicated IP cameras that connect directly to the network hubs.
IndigoVision’s technology provides a cost effective and more flexible solution for video surveillance than traditional analog CCTV installations. The system is easily scalable allowing additional cameras to be added anywhere on the network without additional cabling. It is location independent - an operator can view live network and recorded video from a different building, town or country. The IndigoVision product family includes a range of hardware and software products including IP cameras, transmitters and receivers, and ‘Network Video Recorder’ and ‘Control Center’ software applications.
