Resilient Architecture.

Seven reasons why Distributed is better than Centralized.

1. No single-point-of-failure

A centralized architecture stores all system configuration data on one server – vital information such as user access rights, maps, recording schedules and licenses. If the server fails then the system fails.

IndigoVision's distributed architecture replicates the configuration data throughout the system so that no central server is required. One bit of the system might fail but the rest of the system keeps running.

2. Minimizes bandwidth

Centralized video uses lots more bandwidth, to send video from the camera to the server and again to send it from the server to the user. The central server is a bottleneck.

IndigoVision just sends it once: straight to the user.

3. Resilient over WANs

The weakness of centralized architectures is compounded over multi-site systems which are connected by WANs. Even the best network at some point loses connection between sites.

IndigoVision's distributed system doesn't care whether the WAN links are up or down since everything operates autonomously using locally-stored configuration data.

4. Analog CCTV is centralized

If the analog CCTV matrix stops working, the system stops working; it’s a single-point-of-failure. Other IP systems chose to replicate the architecture of Analog on IP networks, simply replacing the matrix with a central server.

Why move to IP to realise the power of networking, and then throw that power away by routing everything through a central server? IndigoVision's distributed architecture uses the intrinsic power of networking to remove that single-point-of-failure.

5. Minimizes latency

Centralized video doubles the transmission delay between the camera and the user. Basically, it streams the video twice, once to the server, and then again to the user.

IndigoVision cameras just send it direct to the user: minimal latency for sharp operator control.

6. More cost-effective

Those centralized video servers and software don't come free.

Distributed means lower cost because it eliminates the central servers.

7. Lower cost of ownership

Central servers are Windows PCs which have to be maintained, patched and upgraded.

IndigoVision's distributed architecture removes them: lower maintenance time & cost.
